Message Anyone who knows how to use a tig welder should be able to weld the hood. The biggest issue would be blow through at start and stop of a tack/bead, which just requires adjusting the controls on the welder.

The problem is that the aluminum does have a very high chance of warping to due residual stresses. Especially considering the fact that our hoods were rolled to their current shape (I'm assuming). Aluminum transfers heat away from the weld zone VERY quickly. Like nixit said, said, you need a welding putty. You would need to lay down a very small tack or short bead, let the area cool, and repeat until finished to avoid the temperatures from getting too hot.

The best way would be to machine aluminum plugs that are a very close fit, tack in a couple places, then grind. I used this method w/ steel when I shaved my antenna and rear wiper.
